Car parking and grass cutting
A number of grassed areas in the village are damaged by car parking. The main road through the village is no longer an 'A' road and there are no yellow lines in the village. Residents are asked to avoid parking unnecessarily on grass and park elsewhere. It is appreciated that this may be less convenient for some but co-operation will help to improve the overall look of the of the village, and allow our grass verges to look nice.
Dog Fouling
The Parish Council is concerned that a minority of dog owners/walkers in the parish do not clear up after their dogs. Not doing so is very dangerous and dog waste contains toxins which are dangerous to children and other animals. In particular there is a problem on the playing field and also in the churchyard where the waste bin has been used to for depositing dog waste. There is no excuse for not cleaning up. Those who do not clear up after their dog are reminded that they could be fined up to £1000 for failing to clean up.

Stoke Hammond Community Association is a registered Charity, number 277654. The aim of the Charity is to maintain and promote a building to be used for educational and social purposes to the benefit of residents in and around Stoke Hammond. This building, which was purchased following a massive fund raising effort by Villagers through the mid 1990’s, is the Community Centre on Bragenham Side, which was formerly the Village School. The ownership of the building is vested in the Custodian of Charities on the village’s behalf.
Current users of the building include Buttons pre-school, Pilates, Innovations, Slimming World, Scouts, St Luke's church, Parish Council and Joyful Tots. The Centre can also be hired by individuals – Call 01525 270151, or email [email protected]. Fund raising events are also run to contribute to the annual running costs of the centre. The building is run by a Committee of villagers, who are re-elected annually. We are always looking for new people to be involved and if so please contact one of the current committee members below.

The Gardening Club
The ever popular Stoke Hammond Gardening Club currently boasts over 100 members. Most members are from the village although there are some from surrounding areas. However, in future we are restricting it to Stoke Hammond only due to the ever increasing requests for membership. The Committee’s aim is to organise fun outings and events for all those who have an interest in gardens, gardening, plants etc. There has been a gardening club in the village for many years which originally held competitions, had opportunities for bulk buying etc. and has always been well supported but the current Club, of necessity, is run on different lines. Our year begins with the AGM in March - this, apart from the official business, is a social occasion at the Sports Club with the bar open, light refreshments and a guest speaker and is followed in late May by an Afternoon Tea and Plant Swap, usually at Pump House Farm on the canal - always a winner. In the summer months we go on several trips to famous gardens, the weather is usually kind to us and the trips are great fun. We get together in the autumn for a fish and chip supper or similar and then there is the Xmas dinner.
The current Committee consists of Eddie Daniels (President), Gordon Clay (Chairman), Eileen Curry (Secretary), Alex Franks (Treasurer) and committee members Kate Ovenden, Laraine Dykes, Dawn Green and Diane Sims who together provide all manner of help including membership records, contribution to organising all events, trip payments, arrangements for social evenings etc. We are also lucky that others in the village are ready to volunteer their time eg. Peter Gearing, who prints our labels and membership lists, Malcolm Brown who verifies the accounts for Alex and many more.
The cost of membership of the Club has remained the same for many years and is £3 p.a. single and £5 for a couple. Our aim is to keep everything as affordable as possible. The Club likes to contribute to village activities eg. Pensioners‘ Xmas lunch, the village show, Xmas Tree festival etc.
Obviously all our plans for 2020 are on hold but rest assured the committee are ready to leap into action as soon as possible to get things back on track.
Any queries or further information can be obtained from Eileen on 01525 270858

Quiz Team
The Village has a Quiz team, ‘The Horns of Nimon’ plays in the Milton Keynes Quiz League.
The team is made up partly of villagers, with some other players from outside the village in a team of 4. We also have to supply a question reader for home matches. While there is a nucleus of players this is only six so we would welcome hearing from further potential players.
Please contact Dave Webber on (01525) 270409 / [email protected] or Brian Ambler on (01525) 270295 if you'd like to find out more or come along to a match and make yourself known.
Matches take place Monday evenings, starting at about 8.45pm, with home matches being played currently at the Three Horseshoes in Drayton Parslow. For away matches we travel as far as Buckingham or Deanshanger, but most games are in pubs in Milton Keynes and surrounding villages.
A supper is usually provided and the evenings are good fun, not to be taken too seriously.
